Cameroon - Honor and Loyalty : THE ARMY-NATION BOND : BACKBONE OF NATIONAL RESILIENCE

As geostrategic ambitions and alliances are gradually dismantled and reassembled, the world is undergoing major upheavals. For those countries that have not experienced the famous revolutions of the turbulent past, foreign intrusion, whether overt or disguised under the false flag of democracy, is driving territorial remodelling projects driven by multinationals with long arms and on the payroll of foreign hegemonies.

The result is the emergence of tiny entities with the attributes of sovereign States, such as Iraqi Kurdistan and Rojava in north-eastern Syria, two regions rich in hydrocarbons.

Once Afghanistan has been sent back to the Stone Age, certainly in anticipation of the advent of a virtuous democracy, the same proponents of regime change will have succeeded in partitioning Libya. Mali, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo risk suffering the same fate, with all the consequences for their people.

The question then arises as to whether Cameroon, our country, would be safe from this disintegration enterprise. Of course, a superficial look at the pretexts put forward, the modus operandi used and the results obtained in other countries could give us a picture of a certain immunity to this destabilisation virus.

But a closer look reveals that our country is in the crosshairs of the architects of international filibustering, for whom law and order are mere speculations subject to fluctuation or confiscation. On the one hand, Boko Haram is increasingly gaining traction around Lake Chad, with no clear indication of where its resources come from. On the other hand, bloodthirsty separatist groups in the North-West and South-West Regions are allied with natural resource predators.

If it were just that...! We could manage, as we say here at home. But it’s not just that. As we see the gap between healthy competition and bloody confrontation among the major players on the world stage narrow, it’s highly likely that other more restrictive commitments on a larger scale are just around the corner.

The frequent movements of troops on the grand chessboard, the possession of the most sophisticated weapons by unscrupulous individuals, the war-mongering narratives broadcast on all platforms, and the incitement to the deconstruction of institutions and traditions are all warning signs of the conflagrations in the making. And since we will not be spared, it is high time to prepare ourselves for these coming high-intensity, long-term engagements that are already knocking on Africa’s doors, backed by promises of recolonisation and destabilisation manoeuvres.

In this decisive year of the expression of the sovereignty of the people’s vote, our actions and debates must reflect our concern to protect our Fatherland to avoid exposing ourselves to all sorts of dramatic interference. Of course, our brave Defence and Security Forces are and will always be there to lock horns with the enemy fearlessly and without retreat. However, their power will only reach its peak with the support of a united people. The Army-Nation bond, the backbone of national resilience, is needed more than ever. Let us remain vigilant. /-
