At all times and in all places, insecurity situations have one thing in common: they devastate some people, who also make up the majority and most vulnerable strata, namely the masses, while at the same time, opening up enrichment opportunities for others, who constitute the minority and least scrupulous segment. These are the non-state actors of armed violence. In the case in point, terrorists are on the verge of becoming businessmen, after having extorted huge sums of money from the people who are robbed, abused and exploited in numerous ways, under the ready-made pretext of war effort.
The so-called war effort which is supposedly meant to foster misleading fundamentalist or emancipationist projects is nothing but an absurd intellectual and moral reversal of a measure which only legally constituted States have the power to implement. The distortion and use of this measure by armed terrorist groups is an avenue for fundraising intended not to support any spiritual or national revival plan, but to deprive our people of the fruit of their labour, in order to sustain all sorts of underground activities.
The same is true of clandestine business taxes, trafficking in natural resources, persons and human organs, not to mention drug trafficking, an activity that goes side by side with arms trafficking, with a high tendency for territories void of the rule of law, in other words, areas marked by the absence of any social regulatory body, in particular public administration.
The repeated attacks on public buildings, including schools, health structures and traditional chiefdoms, are part of the intention of the outlaws to cut the State off from its people, with the aim of subjugating the latter under the reign of terror. This is also why these proven criminals spare no effort or ingenuity to prohibit the use of communication channels, in particular by destroying watercourse crossings, and laying improvised explosive devices to impede the movement of people and goods.
The State of Cameroon, rather than withdraw its forces into strategic positions, de facto abandoning certain parts of the territory to the enemy, does not skimp on any means to promote social activity by keeping open all communication channels in regions plagued by terrorism. In parallel with this decisive move which sometimes entails paying the ultimate price, without however dampening the patriotic spirit of our brave soldiers, other actions are being undertaken, with priority being to dismantle sedition networks.
The calm situation currently observed in the main insecurity hotbeds should therefore not deceive anyone, since the terrorist groups have certainly been greatly weakened, thanks to recurrent unbearable onslaughts inflicted on them by our security forces. Indeed, the real risk lies in the temptation to get used to this situation half-way between security and insecurity, a situation conducive for all kinds of deviations and losses, mainly to the detriment of the youth.
The patriotic culture, vigilant attitude, and collaboration between the people and public authorities must continue, and even intensify, in order to prevent these bloodsuckers and architects of the war economy from living large on our resources. /-
