We have been led to believe that so-called renewable energies are the panacea for curbing global warming. We were then strongly encouraged to embark on the costly, not fully mastered and even less fully successful process of energy transition. In other words, on the pretext of protecting the ozone layer, we had to abandon the use of energy sources at our disposal that were considered to be extremely polluting.
These are the same fossil fuels that have built the fortunes of the richer nations and to which they are now returning with a real eagerness, all the more so as the tectonics of the geostrategic plates are trembling. Should we then “let go of the prey for the shadow”?
In international relations, we have been told time and again that times have changed irrevocably. That henceforth, mutually beneficial cooperation had replaced one-sided agreements. That the spirit of equality had finally replaced the habit of domination. No sooner was this new paradigm established than the struggle for control of territory and raw materials resumed in earnest. The powerful States no longer bothered to be discreet when announcing their desire to reassert their dominance over nations once considered vassals.
Summoned to speak for one side or the other, invited to serve interests on our soil that are not ours, our States must “summon up exceptional courage” to ensure that our own interests prevail. A sovereignist attitude, however legitimate, is not without its dangers, since the use of force is openly contemplated and destabilisation campaigns are clearly promised to States that resist the resurgence of the ideology of domination.
Moral and intellectual conditioning are also part of this grammar of univocal and absolutist power. Preconceived ideas thus serve as food for thought, ready-made false narratives establish the fact, pronounce the verdict, designate the culprit, and the opinion of a privileged few aims to impose unanimity.
All this because the proponents of globalisation have proved incapable of integrating the new egalitarian order that they themselves proclaimed, defended and promoted. They are also incapable of thwarting the objective of affirming our peoples, who yesterday belonged to the Third World and today are emerging. So the barriers of ideological discrimination are being hastily rebuilt and the demons of hegemony are back more than ever. All this shows that old habits die hard.
For the nations targeted by these crooked expeditions in the making, the danger lies not so much in the premonitory noise of hypothetical upheavals, which are not always inevitable. The real danger lies in the fragility of the patriotism of some of our fellow citizens, some of whom are prepared to put themselves at the service of predators in exchange for some small, alienating favours.
So it’s up to us to stand together in the face of attempts to destabilise our institutions. It’s up to us to respond intelligently to the cognitive distortions of moral inversion conveyed by their media. It’s up to us to build our country through hard work. It’s up to us to believe in the irresistible strength of our Unity!!! /-
