The head of the Communication division of MINDEF, Cyrille Serge ATONFACK GUEMO, stopped on December 19, 2020, on the impact of Covid-19 and the protective measures to be taken to fight the pandemic. Indeed, in his editorial he enumerated these different aspects. This translates as follows :
"Cameroon is at the top of the list of countries having best contained the COVID-19 pandemic! This could look like a simple hallucination, a sweet dream intended to maintain a semblance of hope of survival within a population affronting a health threat which has exposed the structural failures and material deficiencies of great powers of this world. Except that in these times of planetary stress, and in consideration of the status of the personality that reveals this ranking, the rank of our country is like a stone dropped in the pond of a certain minority opinion long convinced of our poverty and incompetence.
By making the findings of his organization public, Dr Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, Regional Director ofthe World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa not only takes the opposite view of many experts, but also urges other nations to take Cameroon as a model. The right model. Of course, this happy news can only cause disappointment and frustration in the corporation of our detractors. Too bad if the newspapers cannot find enough to stain a blank page. It is a fact, and it would not occur to anyone to suspect the WHO of any favouritism, Cameroon being no match to influence this organization, even if it intended to.
The barrier gestures, the good old hydroxidechloroquine, home decoctions and mixtures, barks and other most unsuspected ingredients from the popular African pharmacopoeia may have had their effect. It’s about maintaining the course. It's about repeating the performance over time, to demonstrate to scorners that a Cameroon without COVID is neither anillusion nor a coincidence. But the realization of the combined efforts of a people determined to overcome, one after another, the obstacles encountered on their way to prosperity.
Once again, washing your hands with running water, using soap or a hydro-alcoholic gel, coughing or sneezing in the crease of the elbow, wearing a mask, avoiding physical contact, are just a few. The facts and actions of attitudes ofStop-COVID, should be repeated as many times as necessary, until the disease is extinguished.
The Stop-COVID Attitude is also doubly beneficial to us, given that in addition to protecting us from diseases, this way of being and acting will save us from having to undergo on the part of pharmaceutical companies, the endless burden of a more probable financially interested philanthropy, more or less, the violation of our sovereignty, under the pretext of a right of hegemonic sanitary interference, which would not fail to be imposed on us as being the only way to salvation, in theevent of a suspected failure in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And while the results we have achieved in the fight against the coronavirus give us the right to be elated, we should be careful about road insecurity, another environmental scourge that awaits only the slightest second of inattention, to render our families mourners. The probability of dramatic occurrences on our roads is all the more high, as the movements of people already immersed in the festive atmosphere looming on the horizon are amplified. While the euphoria over the prospect of the upcoming celebrations is understandable, the endangerment of human lives by misbehaviour of road users is much less.
Speeding, dangerous overtaking, used tires, insufficient lighting and overloading are the dominant offences observed by the different teams of the National Gendarmerie deployed on the main roads across the national territory. Eliminating these causes of accidents requires a permanent and vigilant civic spirit on the part of all.
In addition to saving lives, this sacred union against road crime will earn our country to join another very selective club; that of the countries with the lowest rate of road accidents. And as the fight against COVID-19 demonstrates, it is not impossible to see the end of the year without traffic accidents. Merry Christmas!" Completed the latter.
