In the first seconds of January 01, 2023, the year 2022 will finally be history. This is an opportune moment for all sorts of introspection, with regard to the decisions, commitments and virtuous resolutions taken at the start of this time spanlimited to 365 days.
As far as the valiant Cameroonian Defence and Security Forces are concerned, these are 365 days entirely devoted to the well-being of all the inhabitants of our country, through the protection of people and property, the preservation of the integrity of the national territory, and contribution to the national development effort.
365 days of watchingover the security of our people, everywhere and in all weathers, taken to task by gangs of delinquents, threatened by individuals for whom terror is a fulfilled promise, murder a spectacular norm, theft and rape a panacea of governance.
In 2022, no effort was spared, and all legal means were mobilised, in particular intelligence and intervention, to reduce banditry and terrorism to the barest minimum, with meticulousness and restraint, but also conviction and self-sacrifice.
365 days spent trying to convince road users to give up their plans to kill themselves on our roads, and not to drag into their suicidal madness, dozens of other innocent lives that want to live.
In all respects, the task was enormous, but the permanent and resolute action of patrols and checkpoints will certainly have spared us some disasters, to the great displeasure of the unrepentant traffic offenders.
Always ready for all scenarios, our fearless firefighters saw the curve of requests rise, without prejudice to the constantly increasing number of their preventive actions.
As promoters of development, the Cameroonian Defence and Security Forces occupied the 365 days that will soon elapse, opening or rehabilitating communication routes, constructing or repairing public buildings such as schools and dispensaries, providing education and health care when needed.
At the same time that a vigilant eye was kept on our land, air and maritime borders, our brave soldiers of the Republic actively animated the national sports movement, to the point of validly representing our country on the international scene, a stage on which Cameroon’sprestigecontinues to shine, thanks to the operational and behaviouralperformances of its contingents deployed in peacekeeping missions.
Of course, communication by the Ministry of Defence cannot be left out of this retrospective, far from claiming to be exhaustive. The Communication of the Ministry of Defence, throughout the ending year 2022, kepton the pathof truth, clarity, accessibility and openness to contradiction.
Because we have drawn up this overview of our activities in 2022ourselves, it might seem to be free of any reason for recrimination.Far from it! In fact, we are the first to seek out and recognise our own shortcomings and failures. Hence the incessant after-action reviews aimed ataddressing any discrepancies between the initial intentions and the results obtained.
All this with the sole aim of serving you with Honour and Loyalty, a commitment that grows stronger in the face of difficulty, and continues over the years.
Faithful listeners, companions in our civic struggles, to you and to all those who are dear to you, we wish you a Happy New Year 2023!
Navy Captain
ATONFACK GUEMO,
Head of Communication Division - MINDEF
